Reduced VAT for Families

With the school holidays just around the corner, there's a bit of welcome news for parents.
Between now and 1 September 2026, VAT has been temporarily reduced from 20% to 5% on a range of family-friendly activities and children's meals.

In the hope that businesses choose to pass the saving on, it would mean cheaper days out over the summer holidays.
The temporary reduction covers many:
🍔 Children's meals eaten in cafés, pubs and restaurants
🎢 Theme parks, zoos, adventure parks, museums, soft play centres and other qualifying family attractions
🎭 Children's and qualifying family tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, exhibitions and shows
Not every attraction or ticket qualifies, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye out when you're booking days out or eating out with the kids.
With the tax burden trending in one direction recently, it's nice to be able to share a little good news.
A quick note for business owners...
If you operate a business that may qualify for the temporary 5% VAT rate, don't forget to update your till or accounting system for the duration of the scheme before reverting back to the normal rate in September.
If you're unsure whether your business is affected, or you'd like us to sense-check your VAT treatment, just get in touch.
Wishing everyone a fantastic summer!
James
